Where do you get your Oysters? Our saltwater oysters are imported from Asia, where they were cultured & farmed specifically for pearls.
What if there is no pearl in the oyster? All oysters opened via Facebook Live are guaranteed; in the rare event an oyster is opened without a pearl, we simply will open another until you receive a pearl. We cannot guarantee oysters you open at home, although it is very rare to find a cultured oyster without a pearl.
Are these Oysters alive? Definitely not! All our oysters are preserved in an alcohol solution and sealed to withstand international shipping; they are deceased long before we receive them.
What do you with the shell and oyster meat? They are disposed of; the meat is not fit for human consumption due to the alcohol solution they are shipped in.
How much are the oysters & jewelry? We have a variety of prices to suit all budgets. Jewelry is always optional.
What do I do with the pearls? They make a wonderful keepsake, or you can purchase jewelry to keep them in. We have silver plated and sterling silver options, as well as mounted options arriving soon.
How do you tell what color the pearl will be? It is commonly believed the lip of the oyster shell determines the color of the oyster. However, for cultured pearls, what determines the color is the donor oyster used in culturing. When culturing pearls, a small piece of mantle from a donor oyster is added with the bead that is inserted into the oyster where the pearl will grow. The oyster forms a pearl by secreting nacre around the mantle and bead. Natural pearls grown without human intervention is incredibly rare.
What is the white/pink/black salt for? The salt(sand) is to show off the colors of the pearls. It is difficult to see on camera the tones of the pearls; this makes it easier to pick up.
Is this Vantel Pearls? No, Shuckaholic Pearls is independent.
How can I become a Consultant? We appreciate your interest, however at this time we are not expanding.
What colours do saltwater pearls come in? They range in many hues and colors; Rose, Silver, White, Cream, Gold, Blue, Gray, Black. The more vibrant colors are achieved by a common industry practice called irridation. This does not affect the nacre of the pearl.
What is the number you announce when you measure the pearls? This is the size of the pearl, and is measured in millimetres.
Why don't you give valuation on your pearls? We would prefer you take your pearls to someone who can give you a proper appraisal, rather than us quoting approximations that we cannot verify firsthand.
